Touching Technology
ConferencePosted on Sat Feb 18, 2006 at 11:06:38 AM EST
There are two sessions focused on the ways in which technology can enhance person-directed practice:
Technology: Building Community on a Whole New Level
Shannon Ford Thompson & Jack York
Thursday, August 3
1:15pm-2:45pm
Today's elders invented most of today's technology -- they deserve the right to use it! This session will demonstrate how adaptive technology can be a remarkable culture change tool to enhance and change the quality of life of elders. Shannon Ford Thompson of Pinon Management and Jack York of It's Never 2 Late will highlight how technology has made it possible for hundreds of residents to stay engaged in the outside world -- and how the technology has been woven into the broader culture change efforts in Pinon's settings.
Resident Preferences: Gathering Info, Communicating with Technology, Measuring Impact
Mary Ann Anichini & Susan Halstead
Friday, August 4
2:00pm-3:30pm
Presbyterian Homes developed a method of gathering and presenting information about resident preferences on staff computers located in resident living areas. The information gathering begins with an interview guide to stimulate resident, family and staff to consider preferences. "Preference Profiles" (recorded in the first person and including photographs) are reviewed and validated by the resident. Each profile contains 8 sections: Life history, What I like to do, Starting the day, Shower day, Evening routine, Bedtime, Things I want to accomplish, and Preferences of Special Importance. The presentation will describe efforts to evaluate the implementation of the Preference Profiles using the Caring Behaviors Inventory.
